Employee Spotlight: Loriana Couturier – Driving Accuracy and Innovation in Pensions

At Intellica, our success is built on the expertise and dedication of our people. In our latest #IntellicaEmployeeSpotlight, we’re proud to highlight Loriana Couturier, a Trainee Actuary who plays a key role in ensuring precision and compliance in pension projects.

From testing pension models to collaborating across teams, Loriana’s work helps drive the accuracy and efficiency that Intellica is known for. We sat down with her to learn more about her journey, role, and what excites her about working in the pension industry.

A Path into Pensions and Actuarial Science

Loriana’s journey into the actuarial field wasn’t always a straight path, but her strong analytical mindset and passion for problem-solving led her here.

“I’ve always loved working with numbers and solving complex problems. At first, I wasn’t entirely sure which direction I wanted to take, but once I learned about actuarial science and its impact on financial security, I knew it was the right fit for me,” she shares.

Her role as a Trainee Actuary at Intellica allows her to combine her analytical skills with real-world financial challenges, helping to ensure pension schemes are fair, accurate, and compliant with regulations.

“Pensions might not seem exciting to everyone, but they’re incredibly important. They affect people’s lives in a big way and getting the details right matters. That’s what drives me every day.”

What Loriana Does at Intellica

As part of the Pensions Technical Team, Loriana is involved in a variety of actuarial projects that require meticulous attention to detail and problem-solving. Her role includes:

  • GMP equalisation Testing & Projects – Ensuring guaranteed minimum pension equalisation is correctly implemented, a crucial part of pension fairness.
  • Benefit Audit – Conducting detailed audits to verify pension benefits, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Remediation Projects – Identifying and correcting pension calculation errors, helping schemes remain compliant and fair.
  • Benefit Calculations & Model Building – Developing and testing actuarial models for pension schemes to improve efficiency and reliability.

“Each project presents a new challenge,” Loriana explains. “Pension rules are complex, and every scheme has its own intricacies. My job is to ensure the calculations and models we use are as accurate as possible so that pension holders get exactly what they’re entitled to.”

Overcoming Challenges & Growing in the Role

Starting out in actuarial science can be challenging, and Loriana admits there was a learning curve.

“At first, it was quite overwhelming understanding the technical details, keeping up with regulatory changes, and making sure every calculation was correct. But what helped me was the incredible support from my team. At Intellica, there’s always someone willing to explain things or offer guidance, which has made a huge difference in my development.”

She credits Intellica’s culture of collaboration and learning for helping her transition smoothly into her role.

“It’s a steep learning process, but that’s what makes it exciting. I’m constantly developing new skills, and each project teaches me something different.”

Collaboration and Learning at Intellica

One of the highlights of working at Intellica, according to Loriana, is the opportunity to interact with different teams.

“Even though I’m focused on actuarial work, I collaborate with various teams – from AI specialists to pension administrators. It’s a great environment where I’m constantly learning. It’s not just about the numbers; it’s about understanding how pension schemes work in the real world and working with others to find the best solutions.”

She also appreciates Intellica’s investment in professional growth.

“The company really invests in its people. Whether it’s study support for actuarial exams or hands-on project experience, I feel like I’m growing every day. Having access to resources, mentorship from my manager, and real-world projects has made a huge impact on my confidence and skills.”

Looking to the Future

As she continues her actuarial training, Loriana is excited about the future and the impact she can make.

“In a few years, I see myself as a fully qualified actuary, leading projects that make a real difference in the pensions space. I want to specialise in model development and testing, making sure pension schemes operate as efficiently as possible.”

Her passion for actuarial science, combined with Intellica’s innovative approach, is paving the way for a bright future.

“There’s so much to learn, but I’m enjoying every step of the journey. I’m grateful to be in a company that supports my development and pushes me to keep improving.”
