The Pensions Technical Specialist is part of the Actuarial and Technical Job Family. The grade for the role is AT3 This means a nearly qualified pensions actuary with between 2 and 4 years of experience within a pensions actuarial/consultancy environment.
Role Description
A fantastic opportunity for an ambitious Trainee Pensions Actuary, with 2-4 years’ experience, to join a thriving pensions technology business.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to play a prominent role in expanding the Pensions Technical team and supporting new business and change initiatives for our clients.
The Pensions Technical Specialist will be required to:
- Help develop the actuarial business proposition including both improvement of existing offerings as well as development of future products.This includes assistance with front-end design of products to help meet our clients’ needs, as well as the technical calculations to ensure our work is accurate. · Assist with the development and implementation of enhanced internal policies and procedures to ensure adherence to high standards of governance.
- Review work carried out by junior members of the team ensuring standards and common practices are adhered to.
- Work efficiently with the Business Analyst and Development teams, inputting where required to ensure client deliverables are provided on time and within budget.
- Provide input into pricing and project plan creation for new opportunities · Assist the sales and client management teams as required, building relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
- Attend and contribute to monthly Pensions Technical team meetings held at the Liverpool office.

Essential Skills and experience
- 2-4 years’ experience within a pensions environment (can be from either Trustee or corporate consultancy or pensions specific experience gained in a life insurance environment)
- A degree in actuarial science, mathematics, finance or similar
- Strong numerical skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel
- Strong IT skills and technical expertise, ability to adapt to new software.
- Capable of working to tight deadlines and think on their feet in a pressured environment.
- Proven team player who can adapt to a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
- Strong communication skills.
- Excellent time management.
Desirable skills and experience
- SQL, R and/ or Python coding
- Experience of GMP rectification and/or equalisation projects
- Experience working with pension scheme data
- Knowledge of the journey through Pensions Risk Transfer transactions
- Experience providing consultancy services to clients
- Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint
